What are the cleansing foods?

Does your body need cleansing?

The body’s primary elimination organs – those that get rid of all the junk – are the liver, kidneys, skin, bowel, lungs and lymphatic system.

Certain foods have a specific ‘cleansing’ effect on different organs of the body.

Green beans for example are highly nutritious and are a great source of fibre, which helps to clean out the colon.

Beetroot has blood-cleansing abilities and is full of antioxidants, vitamin C, beta-carotene and carotenoids, which helps rejuvenate the liver. These ingredients can be found in carrots, fruit and leafy green vegetables.

Great cleansing foods
  • Fruit – pink grapefruit, strawberries, pears, lemons, limes and kiwifruit
  • Vegetables – pumpkin, sweet potato, carrots, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, leafy greens and spinach
  • Nuts and seeds – almonds, walnuts, sunflower, seeds and sesame seeds
  • Protein – skinless organic chicken, oily fish, adzuki beans
  • Grains – brown and wild rice, unprocessed oats and seeds
  • Herbs and spices – basil, caraway, cardamom, cinnamon, chives, cumin, curry powder, dandelion, dill, fennel, ginger, honey, nutmeg, parsley, rosemary, turmeric
  • Oils – Olive oil and flaxseed oil
  • Drinks – Green tea and herbal tea
