Water: the beauty elixir
Before you apply more moisturizer, check how much water you’re drinking. View video
Are you drinking enough water?
Some of my clients and friends complain about dry skin on their face or body. They ask me to give them the richest moisturizer we have, to hydrate their skin.
I tend to ask, 'How much water do you drink every day?' The answers are shocking: 'Two glasses, BUT I have a herbal tea and coffee and juices.' And, and, and – but just not water.
How much do you need?
You need to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. If you exercise or the weather is hot, then you need more. Otherwise you will get symptoms such as headaches, tiredness and loss of concentration.
(Just be careful not to flush out your own minerals – this will make you feel tired. So eat a healthy salty snack or drink mineral water to put them back.)
NO moisturizer can effectively hydrate your skin if you are dehydrated from the inside.
So from now on, drink 2 litres a day. People ask, ‘Won’t I be spending all my time going to the bathroom?’ Well yes, BUT only for the first days until your body’s hydration is balanced. Then you will be fine - your organs as well as your skin.
Facts about water
- Water is involved in many processes that are vital for our well-being. For instance, it keeps body temperature stable and helps get rid of waste.
We need to be reminded every day to drink more water. Your skin will look better, your vitality will increase and generally you will feel much better. It is the well-being and beauty elixir.
Clients' feedback about water
I had an email a while ago from a client who wanted a potent moisturizer. When I learned that she was drinking only one glass of water a day, I pushed her to drink more. Below is her response.
‘Also I have been cutting down a lot on my cups of tea and drinking more water… thanks to you. And … my face skin looks great.’
This is the best reward: when I see people improving their well-being in a fundamental way, like drinking water.
