Myth: exfoliating is bad!

How many of you exfoliate regularly? And how many think that exfoliating is bad for your skin? View video
  • Does your skin feel dry even when you apply a thick layer of moisturizer?
  • Is it dull, wrinkly, blotchy, not fresh, and lacking healthy colour?
If yes maybe you should be exfoliating.
Our skin has billions of cells. Every day new cells are born and old cells die. What happened with the dead cells?

They are “retired” and lie on the skin’s surface. Every day millions join them and they make your skin look duller, while absorbing your precious moisturizer. They create a barrier over the new cells beneath, which need moisturizing.

Regular exfoliation helps remove this dead cell layer, revealing the fresh new cells underneath.

But doesn’t exfoliation destroy our skin’s protective layer?

It depends on the type of exfoliant. If you have CO2 laser or chemical Blue Peel (TCA) treatment then yes, the skin loses it own protection. You have to wear sun screen and avoid sun exposure (be a vampire for couple of months) till the skin builds it up again. But those treatments are only done by doctors.

We’re talking about daily or weekly exfoliants that you massage in. They are usually mild, and your skin retains its protective layer. Even the mild enzyme treatments by professional beauticians are still highly beneficial.

So …
6 reasons why we should regularly exfoliate our face & body

1. Get rid of the dead cells barrier
2. Creams absorb better, increasing nourishment
3. We don’t waste our creams
4. The skin doesn’t feel so dry
5. Healthier, smoother, less blotchy skin
6. Skin feels clean

Choose an exfoliant that is right for your skin type. Generally exfoliate once or twice a week.  Massage the product gently for 1-2 minutes into your skin, then rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water.

For the body you can use a loofah or scrub glove. And you can make your own exfoliants for face and body.
