Hormones: are you in charge?

How do you feel when your hormones are in balance? Just perfect. But on those days where our hormones go mad, we can act like zombies.

Talk to your naturopath or doctor, to check your hormone levels with a blood test – and find out what you can do if they are not functioning properly.

Things to try:
  • Eat green leafy vegetables and organic raw chocolate – these can help restore hormonal balance.
  • Do something for your soul: reading a book, gardening, walking, painting, dancing, talk to a friend.
  • If you take any medications be very cautious – to find out if they cause any imbalance in your body.
Examples of hormonal function and dysfunction:
  • stimulation or inhibition of growth
  • in puberty hormones can affect mood and mind
  • activation or inhibition of the immune system
  • regulating metabolism
  • preparing for a new activity (e.g. fighting, fleeing, mating)
  • preparing for a new phase of life (e.g. puberty, caring for offspring, menopause)
  • controlling the reproductive cycle.
