Absorbing your vitamins
How do we make sure that all vitamins get absorbed and used by body?
If you’re making a fresh, raw juice or smoothie, add a few drops of any oil (fat). Why? Because vegetable and fruit juices contain vitamins that are soluble in fat – this means they need fat to be transformed and absorbed as a vitamin in the body. If you buy juice at a juice bar, ask the assistant to add some oil. (You won’t be able to taste it!)
Questions:
A. Why are vitamins good for us?
B. Do we retain all the vitamins we consume, and use them as needed?
C. Does consuming lots of vitamins make us more vital and healthy?
Answers:
A. They are vital for normal growth, and to maintain healthy cells, tissues and organs.
B. No, not all vitamins can be stored in the body. So eat a variety of vegetables and fruit.
C. No, our body takes only what it needs.
