Bath Time Products

Bath time built stores like David Jones and Myer: It’s a known fact that almost every woman in the modern world will have received some kind of bath set in her lifetime.

Be it a combination of bath salts, cubes, bubble bath or talcum powder, bath sets are definitely the easy option for that long lost Aunty at Christmas and will seemingly never go out of fashion.

But if you are looking for something a bit more spa for your bath time, read on for some indulgent treats

Essential Oils

Essential oils are perfect for creating and enhancing bath time moods, with specific blends for calming, relaxing, uplifting and reviving.

Look for ingredients such as Lavender, Vanilla and Rose to create feelings of warmth, relaxation and calmness. Blends of bergamot, lemon and lime are perfect when you want to feel rejuvenated and awakened.

Essential oils are becoming more widely available, but care must be taken if oils are to be blended with each other, with a pre blend being more suitable unless you are a qualified aromatherapist. When it comes to the quality of the oil, the general rule is you get what you pay for:

If you purchase cheap, low quality oil it will not have much more effect than scenting the air. High quality oils should be used in bath water in moderation, with 2-3 drops being all that is needed to deliver the required results. Essential oils can also be burnt during bath time utilising an oil burner and beeswax or tallow candles.

How to have a Great Bath!

Few would disagree that taking a bath is a wonderful, relaxing experience, but what are the factors to making a good bath a great bath?

As far back as the days of Cleopatra when she demanded fresh milk for her daily bathing ritual, baths have been a firm favourite to cleanse, beautify and moisturize the skin.

Add to this the warmth of the water to aid relaxation and the myriad of preparations and products created specifically for bath time, and you have an amazing spa treatment that you can create in the comfort of your own home.

Creating a bathing experience

The essentials for creating a wonderful bathing experience begin long before the taps are turned on and the bath salts added:

Ensure that you find a small slice of time in your busy life that is free of children/husbands/Jehovah’s Witnesses knocking at the door. Switch off the phone, including the silent vibration on your mobile and lock the bathroom door, with strict instructions NOT to be disturbed any time soon.

Bath Time Essentials

  • Candles to create atmosphere. Aromatic or scented candles are great but ensure that they are a natural, clean scent and the candles do not burn with a black smoke as many cheap candles do. Look for beeswax or soy candles for a truly organic experience

  • Music is great if you don’t often get a chance to listen to your favourite tunes, though you may want to give the Metallica a miss at bath time. Selected stores carry spa mix CD’s which are used in spas and salons and contain a beautiful mix of relaxing and regenerating music

  • Wine/Tea/Coffee – There is nothing nicer than sipping on your favourite beverage as you lie back and listen to the sounds of spa. Take care if consuming alcohol, as the heat of the bath water will raise your body temperature and increase the effects of alcohol

  • Warm fluffy towels are a definite requirement when stepping out of a cooling bath, as is a comfortable, thick robe. If you live in a country that has a cold winter such as Europe or the US, it is more than likely you have central heating, so pop it on the radiator so it will be warm and inviting by the time you have finished your bath
