Do chemical peels help acne scars?

Do chemical peels help acne scars?

A client asks: ‘Do chemical peels help with acne scars? What is the youngest age you can have this treatment?

Keep in mind that the treatment of acne scars is very complex. There is no perfect solution. Effective treatments are: laser and skin resurfacing, chemical peels and dermabrasion

A dermatologist or plastic surgeon can examine your skin and decide which peel is the most suitable. Read more on Wikipedia about chemical peels

There is no age limit – it depends on your skin condition. Again, a dermatologist or plastic surgeon can advise you.

I recommend the ‘Green Peel ® from Dr Schrammek’ (only use the original as they are many copies on the market).

‘What is GREEN PEEL® ?

This herbal peeling treatment is a medically developed, biologically based method consisting only of natural plant ingredients. It has been successfully proven worldwide.

Ingredients include proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, mucilage’s and tannins, phytohormones, enzymes, mineral salts and trace elements.

Alternatives to laser for acne

Wendy asked: ‘I’m 33 and I have a little bit of acne and large pores!! What can I do? I was thinking about laser, but it’s expensive.’

Yes, laser is expensive and you can solve the problem in a much cheaper way.

There are some important elements you need to keep in balance: how much water you drink, amount of exercise, stress levels, and efficient digestion.

Food. Daily eat fresh vegetables, fruit and fish to support your skin. Fatty, oily foods will show in your skin and cause blemishes.

Water. The body needs to flush out all toxins. If you don’t have good hydration your skin will suffer. Drink 2 litres of water daily.

Exercise. Getting active helps you flush out toxins with sweat, so the skin cleans itself. More importantly the ‘happy’ endorphin hormones are activated. which is important for the skin as well for the soul.

Stress. If stress levels are high, the glands may produce more sebum which causes blemishes.

Digestion. For a healthy digestive system you need regular daily bowel movements. Eat prunes, muesli, husks (from wholegrains), fresh fruit (kiwifruit is good) and vegetables.

Beauty routine. Nurture your skin with ‘food’ (ingredients in product) regularly and consistently if you desire healthy looking skin. Avoid chemicals as they harm your health and skin. Some acne products have alcohol in which dries skin out, so the glands then produce more sebum, meaning more blemishes.

Hormones and my skin

After the blog/video called ‘Give up the pill and get spots’

CanIrishGal85 asked:

‘I am experiencing the exact same problem. I have been off the pill for almost nine months and my skin just keeps getting worse! How long did it take your skin to get back to normal?’

My skin got better after seven months. However, I clean (manually removing spots) once or twice a week and I can honestly tell you that without my skincare regime it would be even worse.

My doctor said that after giving up the birth control pill it might take a year or more to clean up the whole body.

Here are the products which rescue me daily:

Exfoliate

Mask for spots

Hormones and acne

After the blog/video called ‘Give up the pill and get spots’

Lisa wrote: ‘I also have a hormone imbalance. I am 21 and I have been struggling with acne for a year now. It has become an overwhelming process that I don’t want to deal with any more. I have tried every product in the book for my face. I went to a spa and the lady told me that I am the “perfect” candidate for birth control. Although I am opposed to birth control… I may be willing to try it due to my imbalanced hormones. I just want my “flawless” skin back, and I never thought that I would get to the point where I would try anything. PLEASE HELP. Thank you, Lisa’

Advice

You have to find the cause of your skin trouble. Then you can start to heal it. The birth control pill suppresses the symptoms, rather than healing.

  • Go to an accredited naturopath or doctor and have a blood test to find out your hormone levels
  • Consult an accredited nutritionist or naturopath who will design the right diet for your skin. Food may be the medicine!
  • Find a beauty therapist who specializes in acne (a dermatologist may recommend someone). You have to regularly remove the spots.

Things to consider

The skin needs to be treated from the inside (diet and lifestyle) and outside (skincare). You also need to be patient with the healing process.

Good food for blemishes

Good food for blemishes

Most of us know that feeling when a spot is just below the surface – we just want to get rid of it. No way do we want to nourish blemishes, but you can apply some organic ingredients that will send them away.

  • Organic thyme extracted from the leaves and flowering tops of the shrub. Thyme is antimicrobial and astringent. Traditionally it has been used as a gargle for sore throats and for soothing coughs.
  • Plantain leaf is said to soothe and heal many skin conditions. It is toning, astringent (contracts skin tissues), and reduces oil secretions of the skin.
  • Echinacea herb is used internally as a blood purifier. Externally, it helps speed the healing of skin conditions caused by acne, eczema and other problems. Firms and tones the skin.
  • Natural green clay is the most absorbent of the clays and is excellent for acne and oily skin. Green clay cleanses, exfoliates, smoothes and softens the skin.
  • Marshmallow leaf has been used since ancient times as an anti-inflammatory to soothe and heal the skin. Its other name, althea, comes from a Greek word meaning healing. It is said to control oily skin and soothe allergic skin reactions.
  • Witch hazel leaf extract soothes inflamed skin. It is astringent and anti-inflammatory.
  • Organic lavender. The pure essential oil from the freshly cut tops of lavender flowers is useful for all skin since it regulates sebum production. It fosters the regeneration of new skin cells and soothes inflamed skin.
  • Lemon myrtle. The pure essential oil of lemon myrtle leaves and twigs is a potent antibacterial and antiseptic. It is excellent for acne conditions and oily skin.
  • Tea tree. The pure essential oil from the leaves of the Tea Tree is a potent antiseptic and anti-bacterial and is excellent for the treatment of acne.

I use (love) and recommend these 100% organic treatments:

Purifying Gel

Natural Green Clay Mask

Skin Brightener

Good food for oily skin

Many of us have fought the battle with oily skin, right? We don’t like the shine and oiliness, or the spots. The good news is that oily skin is not dry – and it will eventually go away. Also, we can treat our spotty faces with certain foods. Believe me, after being attacked by blemishes for two months (I gave up the contraceptive pill), I now have it under control – thanks to the ingredients below!

  • The pure essential oil from the peel of ripe lemons is astringent, antibacterial, antiseptic and cleansing. When applied to oily skin it can help reduce sebum production. Lemon oil can cause increased skin sensitivity to ultraviolet light if left on the skin.
  • Witch hazel leaf extract soothes inflamed skin. It is astringent and anti-inflammatory
  • Burdock root has been used as a remedy against skin cancer in Chile, China, India, Canada and Russia. Herbalists praise it as an excellent remedy for acne and eczema. Burdock is said to restore the smoothness of the skin and promote hair growth.
  • Green clay is the most absorbent of the clays and is excellent for acne and oily skin. Green clay cleanses, exfoliates, smoothes and softens the skin.
  • Echinacea herb is used internally as a blood purifier. Externally, it helps speed the healing of skin conditions caused by acne, eczema and other problems. Firms and tones the skin.
  • Organic lavender. The pure essential oil from the freshly cut tops of lavender flowers, is useful for all skin since it regulates sebum production. It fosters the regeneration of new skin cells and soothes inflamed skin.
  •  Lemon myrtle. The pure essential oil of lemon myrtle leaves and twigs is a potent antibacterial and antiseptic. It is excellent for acne conditions and oily skin.
  • Plantain leaf is said to soothe and heal many skin conditions. It is toning, an astringent (contracts skin tissues), and reduces oil secretions of the skin.
  • Calendula is antiseptic and anti-fungal, and contains hormone and Vitamin A precursors to help soothe, heal, and restore skin.
  • Tea tree. The pure essential oil from the leaves of the tea tree is a potent antiseptic and anti-bacterial, and is excellent for treating acne.

I use, love and recommend these 100% certified organic treatments:

Cleanser

Skin conditioner

Moisturizer

Green clay mask

Give up the pill – and get spots

Give up the pill – and get spots

Spots after puberty? No, please no!

This must happen to many of us, so I want to share my solution to this problem.

I stopped taking the contraceptive pill, to prevent hormonal imbalance. Well, that works: the hormones are good now BUT what about my skin?

Waking up with more & new blemishes is not fun. This brings back memories of being a spotty teenager. Some of us are lucky, but it seems I am the opposite.

So why was I getting spots? I am on very healthy diet. I drink 2 or more litres of water daily. I use certified organic beauty products only. And I exercise regularly in fresh air.

Only one answer came up: hormones. So the choice was, have a healthy hormonal balance and spots, or go back on the pill. I chose spots, because I want to stay healthy, and I hope that my skin will soon stabilise.

My routine to deal with blemishes

Note: when using products as mentioned here, look for certified organic.

  • Twice daily cleansing
  • Nightly exfoliate
  • Nightly apply product that helps break down impurities, while bringing moisture, clarity to skin
  • Twice daily skin conditioner with nutrients (look for water-soluble botanicals, organic herbs, vitamins and essential oils)
  • Twice daily moisturizer
  • Every third night use a green clay-base mask for problem skin (ingredients to look for: organic echinacea, witch hazel to tone and purify, organic lavender, lemon myrtle)
  • Sometimes I mix the green clay mask and apply it only on the spots, to prevent drying out the skin
  • Twice weekly remove spots by squeezing gently with the fingertips. For more on this, see topic ‘Six solutions for skin trouble’. If you have persistent acne, get professional advice from a dermatologist and a beautician.

As a result, I have it under control. But it will take a while for my body to completely detox & balance itself.
