Training as a beautician
Training as a beautician
So you’d like to become a beautician? There is a wide range of courses and schools which can provide training – some better than others.
Unfortunately, anybody can call themselves ‘beautician’, even after a 3-week course. Do you think this person has enough knowledge to give you expert care? … Think how long it takes for anyone to acquire professional skills.
If you’re passionate beauty and health care, and keen to train as a beautician, here are some points to consider:
- Know your goals and be clear about them
- Be specific about what you want to learn
- Understand which skills will be essential
- Identify areas where you’d like to gain expertise
- Think about where you’d like to work, or if you want your own business.
Finding a school
- Ask at quality beauty salons about schools they would recommend. Do they employ graduates?
- Is work experience available during the course?
- Are there any hidden costs?
- Visit those schools personally and see how you feel
- Talk to the teachers, and to students.
